Rename files by using regular expressions


File renaming utilities are numerous and generally offer search / replace strings, use of counters, change case... If this is useful in most cases, it's sometimes tedious when you have to insert a character at a position varying from one file to another or when you have to move certain characters in the name of the file.

The utility RegexRenamer offers a practical solution, by applying a regular expression on each filename, thus allowing to extract its different parts. In a few seconds, as long as you master a minimum of regular expressions, you can apply effective replacements.

The screen below shows an example where we move the end of the file name to the beginning, while enclosing this beginning with parentheses:

Note that this is relatively old software, the latest version dates from 2011.
